Left Front candidate withdraws nomination from Machmara ADC seat; LF condemns move
In a significant political development, the Left Front-nominated candidate, Babul Debnath, has withdrawn his nomination for the Machmara ADC seat in Unakoti district.
The information was confirmed by Swapan Baishnab, Sub-Divisional Secretary of CPI(M) Kumarghat. The withdrawal pertains to the No. 2 Machmara ADC constituency.
Political observers believe that the sudden withdrawal has adversely impacted the image of the CPI(M) and the Left Front, not only in Unakoti district but across the state. Analysts suggest that such developments may have broader implications for the party’s standing ahead of the upcoming elections.
Speaking to the media, CPI(M) State Secretary and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury stated that Babul Debnath of the Forward Bloc had been unanimously nominated as the Left Front candidate by the Tripura Left Front Committee. However, he alleged that the present State Convener of the Forward Bloc, Paresh Sarkar, who filed his nomination as a ‘dummy’ candidate from the same constituency, forced and mentally pressured Debnath to withdraw his nomination on the final day.
“This is very unfortunate. The Forward Bloc, without consulting other Left Front partners, has taken this unilateral decision, which reflects internal discord within the coalition,” Chaudhury said.
Condemning the move by the Forward Bloc’s state leadership, the Left Front has disowned the candidature of Paresh Sarkar as its official nominee for the April 12 ADC elections.
