The Tripura Left Front Committee has decided to contest the upcoming Village Committee (VC) elections in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) with the aim of defeating the ruling BJP, Tipra Motha, and the IPFT.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Tripura Left Front Committee held on Friday.

Left Front committee on Saturday evening through a press statement said that  after the meeting, the Left Front resolved to field candidates across the ADC areas and intensify its political campaign ahead of the elections.

The meeting also expressed deep concern over the continuous rise in the prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas, and other essential commodities, which it said has placed an increasing burden on the common people.

The Left Front further alleged that the state government has indirectly increased electricity costs by imposing various charges, including fixed charges, meter-related charges, fuel surcharges, and other fees through the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL). It claimed that these increases were implemented without any public announcement.

The committee also criticized the renewed installation of smart meters, alleging that consumers’ objections and protests against the system have been ignored. They accused the authorities of pushing forward with the initiative despite widespread public dissatisfaction.

Expressing concern over frequent disruptions in electricity services, the Left Front demanded the withdrawal of the enhanced power tariffs and called for a reduction in the prices of essential commodities. The committee appealed to the people of the state to unite and participate in democratic protests against what it described as anti-people policies.
