Legal Aid Society of NLU, Tripura conducts awareness at central jail
The Legal Aid Society of National Law University (NLU), Tripura visited Bishalgarh prison house (Kendriya Sansodhanagar), to conduct a legal awareness session for inmates on July 27th last.
The session focused on educating prisoners about their constitutional rights, bail procedures, access to legal aid, trial processes, and available rehabilitation mechanisms. To make legal concepts accessible, society members performed a Nukkad Natak (street play), using drama to inform and empower inmates regarding their rights in an engaging manner.
The Society also donated storybooks to enrich the prison library and encourage reading among inmates. The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Ms. Dipika Jamatia, Faculty Advisor of the Society, who extended heartfelt gratitude to the prison administration, staff, and student members for their cooperation and support. Deputy Superintendent Mr. Prasenjit Das and other prison officials were present throughout the program, underscoring the collaborative spirit of the initiative. The Legal Aid Society remains dedicated to bridging the justice gap and promoting legal empowerment for all, particularly for the marginalized and underserved sections of society.
