Major Forest raid in Santir Bazar: Huge quantity of Illegal timber seized from Pathichhari
In a successful operation, the Bagafa Forest Range office under South Tripura district has once again achieved a major success in protecting the state’s forest resources.
Acting on a tip-off, Forest officials carried out a raid and recovered a large quantity of illegally stocked timber.
However, no arrests could be made as the smugglers fled after sensing the operation.
Forest department sources said that on Tuesday at around 10 AM, a special team of the Forest Department, led by Bagafa Forest Officer Jitendra Biswas, launched the operation.
Wood smugglers had secretly stored a huge quantity of timber in the forest area adjacent to Pathichhari market. As soon as the forest personnel cordoned off the area, the smugglers took advantage of the dense forest and escaped from the spot.
Range Officer Jitendra Biswas stated that after prolonged search operations, a large amount of valuable timber was recovered from the forest and brought to the Forest Range office. The market value of the seized timber is estimated to be worth several lakh rupees.
He further added that such raids will continue in the coming days to curb illegal timber trade in the area.
