In a successful anti-narcotic operation, the Special Task Force (STF) with intelligence inputs from the State Intelligence Branch has seized large quantities of dry Cannabis (Ganja) from Jatrapur area of bordering Sepahijala district on Thursday.
‘Police sources said that the Jatrapur police station achieved this major breakthrough in an anti-narcotics operation, seizing 979 kilograms of dry Ganja from two locations under its jurisdiction.
The operation, which continued for nearly five hours, was carried out in the Ledrabari and North Kalikhola areas under Jatrapur police station. Based on specific intelligence, a joint team comprising personnel from the Special Task Force (STF), Tripura State Rifles (TSR), and Jatrapur Police launched a search operation led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Parthanath Bhowmik.
During the raid, the team excavated concealed storage sites deep inside forested areas and recovered 27 drums and two sacks filled with dry Ganja, which had been buried underground. The total quantity seized was 979 kilograms.
After a prolonged operation, the recovered contraband was transported to Jatrapur police station for further legal proceedings.
Speaking to the local media persons, OC Parthanath Bhowmik said that such anti-drug operations would continue in the coming days as part of the administration’s ongoing drive against narcotics trafficking. He also stated that the estimated market value of the seized Ganja is close to Rs 1 crore.
Police have launched further investigations to identify and apprehend those involved in the illegal drug trade and smuggling.
