In a tragic incident one middle-aged man was mowed down by a speeding local train at Brajanagar area of Ranirbazar in West Tripura district on Sunday morning, when he was tried to cross the railway track.

The deceased man has been identified as Swapan Debnath (60) of Brajanagar village of Ranirbazar, who was suffering from mental distress after he lost his son a month ago, who was mowed down by a speeding train in same area.

Police sources suspected that deceased man was in intoxicated condition during the incident and when he tried to cross the track, a speeding local train moving towards Agartala station dashed him and he died on the spot

After receiving the information, local residents and railway police arrived at the spot and recovered the body.

As the news spread, a pall of grief descended over the area. Police has started an investigation to determine whether it was a case of suicide or an accident. The body has been sent for post-mortem to GB Hospital morgue and in the Sunday afternoon, mortal remains of the deceased were handed over to his relatives.
