Man mowed down by speeding Agartala-Sabroom local train at Kalacherra
In a tragic incident one middle-aged man was mowed down by a speeding local train near Kalacherra Railway station in South Tripura district on Saturday morning, when he was busy taking photos of MGNREGA works near the railway track.
The deceased man has been identified as Laxman Chandra Das (52), son of Dhirendra Chandra Das, a resident of Kali Bazar SC Colony.
According to eyewitness accounts, a passenger train that left Agartala at 10:50 AM for Sabroom reached the area near Kalacherra Thailikthwisa station when Lakhan Das inattentively dashed by the speeding train, when he was busy taking photos of MGNREGA works and died on the spot.
After receiving the information, local residents and railway police arrived at the spot and recovered the body.
As the news spread, a pall of grief descended over the area. Police has started an investigation to determine whether it was a case of suicide or an accident. The body has been sent for post-mortem to a local hospital.
