The inaugural session of the two-day Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026, held at the Hapania International Fair Ground on Thursday, was overshadowed by allegations of poor planning and mismanagement, leaving several business delegates dissatisfied despite the presence of senior government officials, ministers, ambassadors, high commissioners from nine countries, investors and entrepreneurs.

According to sources, the conclave, which brought together representatives from 45 State and Central government departments and organizations along with more than 500 business leaders, promoters, industrialists and entrepreneurs, witnessed chaotic scenes during its inauguration. Several prominent business delegates reportedly failed to get seats inside the main venue.

The inaugural programme was attended virtually by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. However, while the inaugural speeches were in progress, dozens of delegates were seen standing inside the hall, with some arranging plastic chairs on their own after finding no seating arrangements.

Questions have also been raised over the event's preparedness. Despite the state government deploying senior officials and multiple departments for the high-profile conclave, workers were reportedly still pasting flex banners and installing lighting fixtures inside the auditorium even as the inaugural programme was underway.

Sources further alleged that several business leaders from different parts of the country expressed dissatisfaction over the alleged mismanagement. Some delegates reportedly left the venue after waiting for hours without being provided seats, raising concerns over the organization of an event aimed at attracting investment and showcasing Tripura as a business destination.
