Mortal remains of Balai Goswami brought to Agartala, hundreds paid their tributes

The mortal remains of Senior BJP leader and ‘Sabhadhipati’ of West District Zilla Parishad , Balai Goswam brought to Agartala from Chennai on Friday and after serious of tributes to late leader, the last rites performed  at Battala crematorium.

Goswami breathed his last at the Apollo hospital of Chennai in Tamil Nadu on Thursday  night. He was 62 and is survived by his lone married daughter Debasmita Goswami. Balai Goswami’s death has left a void in state’s BJP politics and all party men including the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha expressed their shock over his death, describing the sad demise as ‘irreparable loss’.

Soon after his mortal remains were brought to Agartala airport, tributes were paid by local leaders and were brought to his ancestral home in Gandhigram village and his present home in Ramnagar area of Agartala.

Later, the body of Goswami was brought to BJP headquarters in Agartala, where hundreds of party workers, leaders including ministers, MLAs paid their floral tributes to the departed soul.

Balai Goswami , a former government employee, was originally a man from Bamutia area and had begun his political career in Congress where he was close to erstwhile Congress MLA Prakash Das. But since the year 2016 he has been closely associated with the BJP and was chairman of TRTC and then ‘Sabhadhipati’ of West Tripura Zilla Parishad.

Sources close to his family said that on last 10th February he had left for Chennai to undergo treatment in the Apollo hospital there but yesterday he suffered a massive cardiac arrest and was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
