NERPC assures full cooperation to TSECL in strengthening Tripura’s power system
A high-level meeting in Agartala on Thursday put the spotlight on the stability and modernisation of Tripura’s power system, with the North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC) assuring full cooperation to the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL). The meeting took place at TSECL’s corporate office and was attended by senior leadership from both organisations. The delegation was led by NERPC Member-Secretary K B Jagtap and North Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NERLDC) head Sajan George.
They held an extensive review session with TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu, Technical Director Dr Subir Sen, and other officials. The discussion covered a broad range of issues affecting the state’s power sector, including grid stability, transmission infrastructure, cybersecurity, commercial mechanisms, energy management systems, and security advisory controls.
One of the priority subjects raised was the ongoing reconductoring work under Tripura Power Transmission Limited. Officials stressed the urgency of completing this work to improve transmission efficiency and reduce vulnerabilities in the system. The visiting delegation stated that NERPC would extend full support to TSECL in ensuring customer-friendly power services in the state. They argued that coordinated planning in infrastructure development and maintenance could significantly enhance grid performance and reliability.
The Regional Power Committee mechanism was formed under the Electricity Act, 2003 to ensure regional coordination in grid operation, power exchange, and system stability. Each RPC is headed by a Member-Secretary appointed by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), and is tasked with technical studies, transmission planning, maintenance scheduling, voltage regulation, and improving operational efficiency.
Among RPC’s responsibilities are facilitating interstate power transfer, conducting operational and protection studies, and formulating annual and monthly maintenance plans for regional power assets. The committee also plays a critical role in decision-making related to grid operation, scheduling, transmission charges, and energy accounting.
At the conclusion of the meeting, officials from both sides agreed to maintain close coordination on future planning and technological upgradation. They expressed confidence that enhanced collaboration would boost the reliability of Tripura’s power system and provide consumers with more stable and efficient electricity services.
