While, addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan on Tuesday afternoon, Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and MLA Sudip Roy Barman accompanied by AICC secretary Ms Szarita Laitphlang said that former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students’ Union president and Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar will be visiting Tripura to take part in the nomination filing rally of Congress candidate Ashish Kumar Saha on Wednesday.
Congress has fielded its state president and former MLA Ashish Kumar Saha from the West Tripura constituency against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Biplab Kumar Deb, who is a former chief minister of Tripura.
Saha is slated to lead the rally ahead of filing his nomination at the West Tripura District Magistrate’s office on Wednesday in presence of all CPI (M) top leaders and leaders of INDIA Bloc parties in Tripura.
“All the Congress leaders and activists will gather in front of Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan and a procession will move through different thoroughfares of Agartala city before Ashish Saha files his nomination. I request all students, youths and mothers to bless our candidate,” said Barman.
When Barman was asked about Congress’s plan clashing with Deb’s filing of nominations after a rally which too will begin from the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, he said, “When the Congress had submitted an application with the returning officer (RO), the latter admitter that there is no other application for any other gathering at the place (Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan).”
This is a matter that the administration will deal with. We have submitted our application and RO knows the matter. As they are in power, no rules will be followed (by them) and they will take advantage; but this can’t happen. I am sure the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the returning RO will take proper steps, Barman said.
