Amidst continuous joint patrolling by BSF and Tripura police in stretches of Indo-Bangla border, one citizen of the neighbouring country was arrested from bordering village Lankamura under West Agartala police station, who along with another Bangladeshi were moving in that area suspiciously on Wednesday.

Giving details, officer-in-charge (OC) West Agartala police station, Rana Chatterjeehan said that BSF jawans of 42nd battalion posted at bordering Lankamura area noticed in the early morning of Wednesday that two Bangladeshi national after entering into Indian territory were moving in that area suspiciously.

When alert BSF jawans noticed their movements and chased them, one of the infiltrators managed to escape from the spot towards Bangladesh, but BSF jawans managed to detain another one, identified as Shayamal Miah (21) of Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh.

OC added that later BSF jawan handed him over before police for further legal proceedings and produced him before a local court with police remand appeal under  the Foreigner Act-1946 & U/S- 03 of IPP Act ( Entry into India Amendment-2000) for further interrogation.

The infiltration into the Northeastern states especially in Tripura and Assam has continued for Bangladesh and in the last few months hundreds of Bangladesh nationals along with Rohingyas were arrested by security forces from different borders of the state.

After a brief half, especially after operation ‘Sindoor’, the infiltration was almost stopped due to tight security in the entire stretch of border, but during the past few months dozens of Bangladeshi along with touts were arrested from different parts of the state.
