PM Surya Ghar: Power Minister encourages residents to embrace solar energy for self-reliance
Tripura's Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath encourages residents to embrace solar energy for self-reliance.
Nath appealed to the people of the state to develop themselves as power producers instead of just looking at various power generation plants. The minister said this while attending a special camp of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana at the corporate office of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) on Monday. On this day, a special camp has been organized for electricity consumers of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) areas to register their names in the Surya Ghar project, provide bank loans and select vendors for project implementation.
Speaking at a camp , Nath lauds solar power as key to tackling dwindling coal and gas reserves. The initiative aims to empower households with solar production amidst government subsidies.
In a call for energy independence, Tripura's Electricity Minister Ratan Lal Nath has urged the state's residents to embrace solar power, stepping away from sole dependence on traditional electricity producers.
Minister Nath lauded the foresight of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, detailing efforts to address the looming challenge of depleting coal and gas reserves by accelerating the shift to solar energy. The PM Surya Ghar initiative, as championed by the Prime Minister, provides a framework for households to generate electricity, further boosted by government subsidies. Surplus power generated can be sold to electricity corporations, offering households an additional stream of income.
Prime Minister wants to keep the country safe from the problems that may arise in the country in the future through planning and implementation. In the future, coal will run out, gas will run out, as a result, traditional power generation will decrease. Keeping that in mind, the Prime Minister has decided to use solar power to provide electricity to every household. Not only that, but in a surprising plan, he has made every family an electricity producer with government subsidy and given them a wonderful opportunity to earn by selling excess electricity to the power corporation.
Apart from the Power Minister, Power Secretary Abhishek Singh and councilors of various wards of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) were present in this special camp organized at the corporate office of the power corporation on Monday. Enthusiastic people from various wards have gathered to know more about the project. People from various government-approved companies that have replaced solar panels were also present in this special camp. Along with this, officials of State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Canara Bank, Tripura Gramin Bank, Tripura State Cooperative Bank have also taken the initiative to sanction loans to interested people on this day. It is worth mentioning that on February 13, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM Surya Ghar Mufti Bijli Yojana. The project aims to plan for 500 gigawatts of electricity by 2030. Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that so far 200 gigawatts of electricity have been confirmed in the country. Which is 40 percent of the target. Nath also said that the Prime Minister has increased the subsidy to encourage the people of this state to take up the Surya Ghar project by giving the status of special category states to several states including Tripura. The only goal is to reduce the electricity bill to zero. Explaining in detail about this project, Ratan Nath also said that this project can generate electricity on the roof of the house, tin roof or even on the ground. The project aims to increase the capacity of rooftop solar power and enable families to generate their own electricity.
This ambitious project, targeting the generation of 500 GW by 2030 with already 200 GW reached, focuses on rooftop solar installations. Substantial subsidies are offered, particularly for residential sectors, to encourage widespread participation.
Special camps are set to expand across Agartala and other urban locations to galvanize statewide engagement.
