Post-poll violence: 10 miscreants arrested, 6 FIRs lodged
With strict measures and massive statewide alertness by police and state administration, altogether 10 persons were arrested from different parts of the state involved in post-poll violence.
Soon after the announcement of poll results on March 2nd last, large-scale of violence reported from many parts of the state and miscreants owing allegiance to ruling and opposition parties unleashed a reign of terror.
At least dozens of people were injured in post-poll violence and so far police have also registered 6 FIRs in different police stations of the state.
AIG(Police Control) Jyotishman Das Choudhury said that the intensification of violence had been drastically reduced on Saturday and a large number of security forces were deployed in all sensitive areas.
He said that police along with Central forces are continuously patrolling in all violence affected areas and senior police officials are visiting all violence hit areas to maintain peace and tranquility.
On Saturday, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha visited the worst violence affected areas of Khowai and Sepahijala district and had a series of meetings with top administrative and police officials to ensure peace and harmony. He also strictly warned all miscreants and said that law will take its own course to control the post-poll violence.
Dr Saha who visited the injured persons at GBP hospital on Friday asked the police to take stern action against the miscreants in order to maintain peace and tranquility.
Most of the post-poll violence cases were reported from Sepahijala and Khowai districts where a few persons were injured and shifted to nearby health facility but no death is reported yet, said AIG(Police Control).
He said that so far six specific FIRs have been registered in this regard and eight people were grievously injured and 10 miscreants were arrested for their alleged involvement in violence, said Das Choudhury and added that around 70 such incidents have been reported across the state since the election results were announced.
All the police stations have been alerted following post poll violence and police are working in coordination with the local administration to maintain peace, said AIG.
In Sepahijala district, Charilam, Sutarmura and Lalsinghmura witnessed violence but there were no major incidents due to timely intervention by the police and administration, said Das Choudhury.
On Friday in a Facebook post the police said "Some elements are trying to disturb the peace in the state by spreading rumours of clash, attacks. It is informed that so far no untoward incident has been reported. Police are actively patrolling in all sensitive areas and people are requested not to fall prey to these rumours. In case of any emergency, please contact your nearest police station".
Two BJP workers were seriously injured when a group of unknown miscreants attacked them at Barjala in West Tripura district on Friday and they were admitted in GBP hospital, said police and two accused persons were also arrested for their alleged involvement in the attack.
