Post-poll violence: CPI (M) team meets Chief Minister, apprise him of the critical post-poll situation
A delegation of CPIM) led by party’s politburo member and former Chief Minister Manik Sakar along with five other top leaders of the party on Monday met Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and urged him to take immediate necessary to stop post-poll violence, which are unabated.
A six member delegation of including Manik Sakar and CPI (M) state secretary and MLA Jitendra Chaudhury and comprising Left Front convener Narayan Kar, CITU leader and former minister Manik Dey , ‘Kishan Sabha’ leader and former minister Pabitra Kar and SC leader and former MLA Sudhan Das after their meeting with Chief Minister addressing a press meet said that they apprised the Chief Minister of the continuing post-poll violence almost all over the state and submitted a long list of many incidents.
While giving details Manik Sarkar said that despite their repeated appeals and scathing direction, the incidents of post-poll violence, intimidation and embargo upon the livelihood etc are continuing unabatedly across the state barring in few subdivisions.
Sarkar said that the results of assembly elections declared on March 8th last and after passing of 32 days, the nature of violence and intimidation includes physical assault, ransacking, arsoning and looting of dwelling houses, shops and on other properties continues and the menace has further aggravated now with huge amount extortion and creating embargo upon the livelihoods of poor people.
After poll results, parliamentary teams had visited the many violence affected areas of the state and they were also attacked, but after cut short their tour schedules, the team had met the Governor of Tripura and submitted a memorandum with details of violent attacks, but till date nothing had happened and miscreants are continuing their attacks on opposition supporters and their destroying their properties, said Sarkar.
When the parliamentary team visited the state, the numbers of incidents were 1093, now it stands at 2016 with murder of one person and death of four more persons, who were physically attacked by miscreants after poll results, said Sarkar.
He said that before polls, all the party offices and other organizational offices of opposition were opened after a gap of five years, but after March 8th results, again a maximum of party officers were closed down and ransacked by miscreants owing their allegiance with ruling BJP.
“It is very unfortunate that the role of the section of law enforcing authorities are not only found reluctant rather than acting as the facilitators of the culprits, which are harming the causes of the victims in multiple ways,” said Manik Sarkar.
Enclosing the details of all incidents took place since March 2nd, the CPI(M) team requested the Chief Minister to take cognizance of each cases and to bring normalcy to the situation and to don justice with the victims against these sort of atrocities, to provide adequate compensation to the families who faced the wrath of unruly elements and caused economic losses and means of livelihood, they urged the Chief Minister for urgent intervention and to instruct all DMs and SPs and other concerned officials to take steps to stop violence upon opposition supporters.
Sarkar also said that Chief Minister assured the delegation that he will take steps to prevent violence and compensate victim families.(
