Post-poll violence increasing, many party workers admitted in hospitals
After peaceful completion of February 16 assembly polls barring some stray incidents, large-scale of violence reported in many parts of the state and many political workers and supporters were admitted to hospital and their valuable properties.
Sources said that after polls, on Thursday night the workers of both ruling BJP and opposition CPI (M) and Congress engaged in a massive clash at Vivekananda residential society under 6-Agartala assembly constituency. As a result, 5 BJP supporters were hospitalized with multiple injuries.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and BJP candidate Papiya Datta visited the hospital and met all injured persons to enquire about their treatment.
Speaking with media persons, Dr Saha strongly condemned the incident and claimed the violence is the culture of Congress and CPI(M). “Before winning the elections, they unleashed massive attacks on BJP workers, you can imagine what they would do if they voted power,” said Dr Saha.
He appealed to all of their party workers to maintain peace and restrain themselves from any kind of provocative activities of the opposition. He also urged the police administration to take concrete steps and should arrest all miscreants.
While, incumbent Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman alleged that since past couple months, the miscreants owing allegiance with the ruling party continuously attacking and threatening opposition supporters in Vivekananda society and in the poll night, they also unleashed large-scale attacks on them. He alleged that one Litan Modak led all violent attacks on the opposition. On Friday morning, police also recovered a live bomb and defused it.
Opposition leader Manik Sarkar also on Friday visited GB Hospital and met CPI(M) party workers, who were admitted in the hospital with critical injuries after attacks in different areas of the state. Sarkar also condemned these incidents and said that violent politics has also continued after polls also. He said many opposition supporters attacked different parts of the state and their valuable properties. He urged the administration to take concrete steps to stop violent attacks on oppositions.
Reports said incidents of violence reported from many assembly constituencies of the state after completion of poll process and in Mandwai Choumohani area under 10-Majlishpur assembly constituency, many houses of CPI(M) workers were attacked and miscreants had also ransacked their properties including vehicles. Sources said a woman supporter of CPI(M) was also attacked.
Similar incidents of violence reported from Khowai, Chairlam, Sonamura, Dhanpur, Boxanagar, Pratapgarh, Shalgarah-Kakrabon assembly constituencies, where properties like houses, rubber garden were ransacked and set on fire and physically assaulted many persons.
Police sources added that miscreants owing allegiance with the ruling party started large-scale attacks in Aralia, Pratapgarh areas under 13-Pratapgarh assembly constituencies since Friday afternoon and injured few opposition supporters.
The house of one retrenched 10, 323 teacher Satyajit Dey in Mohanpur area of 10-Majlishpur assembly constituency and miscreants had also totally ransacked his house on Thursday night. Protesting the incident, the joint movement committee of sacked teachers on Friday staged a protest in front of police headquarters demanding immediate arrest of all miscreants involved in the attack.
But, after completion of the poll, the central forces deployed in nook and corner of the state are largely withdrawn and police has also withdrawn all Naka points, which has increased miscreant activities and post-poll violence in different parts of the state.
