Proud son of Tripura, Dr Debasish Danda dies in accident
Dr. Debasish Danda, a highly esteemed Rheumatologist associated with Christian Medical College, Vellore, and Narayan Hrudalaya, Bangalore, met with a fatal accident on Saturday while en route from Vellore to Bangalore. Dr. Danda, a native of Satchand village of Sabroom under South Tripura district, succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.
Dr. Danda, a distinguished figure in the medical community, began his illustrious journey as one of the top performers in the first batch of 1976 Madhyamik Exam under the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE). His academic prowess continued as he excelled at JIPMER, Puducherry, where he completed his MBBS and MD in Medicine before specializing in Rheumatology and became the head of Department of Rheumatology, Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore.
With his expertise and dedication, Dr. Danda ascended to global prominence as a Rheumatologist, earning accolades for his contributions to the field. He served as President of the Indian Rheumatology Society and held key positions in international forums, solidifying his reputation as a leader in rheumatological research and practice.
Dr. Danda's commitment to his roots remained unwavering throughout his career. He maintained close ties with the medical community in Tripura, actively participating in events organized by the Association of Physicians of India, Tripura State Branch, and lending his expertise to local healthcare initiatives.
The news of Dr. Danda's untimely demise has elicited an outpouring of grief from across the medical fraternity and political spectrum. Leaders including the Secretary of CPI(M) Tripura unit and MLA Jitendra Chaudhury, and MP Rebati Tripura have extended their deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.
