Railways Ministry sanctions final location survey for new Jirania–Bodhjung Nagar Rail line in Tripura
The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned a Final Location Survey (FLS) for the construction of a new railway line between Jirania and Bodhjung Nagar in Tripura. The proposed section will cover a distance of 14 km, with the survey estimated to cost Rs 42 lakh. The alignment falls within West Tripura district.
The approval is being seen as an important step towards strengthening railway infrastructure in the state and boosting industrial activity. Bodhjung Nagar is a major industrial and commercial hub in West Tripura, developed primarily for resource-based industries such as rubber, bamboo and food processing.
Chief Public Relations Officer of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, in a press statement, said that the proposed Jirania–Bodhjung Nagar railway section will serve as a vital rail corridor for the transportation of industrial products. The new line is expected to benefit traders and the general public by improving connectivity and facilitating smoother movement of goods.
He added that the sanctioned survey would also help promote further industrial development in nearby districts, thereby contributing to the overall growth of the local economy. The project is expected to strengthen supply chains, improve train operations and support economic development across the region.
The Final Location Survey will involve a detailed examination of geographical features, soil conditions, proposed bridges and other engineering aspects. Based on the findings, a comprehensive report will be prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Railways for further consideration and approval. The survey is a crucial preparatory step for the proposed new railway line.
