A shocking allegation of rape inside Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital has come to light, with the survivor claiming that despite filing a police complaint nearly a year ago, the main accused remains absconding and justice has not been served.
According to the complaint, a woman resident of Nandan Nagar alleged that a technical staff member of the hospital’s Biomedical Department, identified as Shataraj Karmakar, had been blackmailing her for a long time using a private video.
The survivor alleged that when she visited the accused’s chamber in an attempt to get the video deleted, he allegedly took her to a secret room inside the hospital premises and forcibly raped her.
The woman further claimed that when she protested against the incident, she was allegedly assaulted by the accused along with several security guards. She also alleged that attempts were made to portray her as a thief.
Following the incident, the survivor lodged a complaint at East Agartala Women police station on February 14, 2025 last.
However, she alleged that despite repeated appeals, police have failed to ensure justice so far. Instead, she claimed that pressure was exerted on her to settle the matter privately.
The survivor also accused a police official, identified as Nirupa Deb, of threatening and intimidating her whenever she repeatedly approached the police station regarding the case.
Another serious allegation raised by the survivor is that an engineer named Ratul Deb allegedly made repeated efforts to protect the prime accused by lobbying at the police station.
With nearly a year having passed without any significant progress in the case, the survivor has now approached the media seeking justice and demanding immediate action against the accused.
Police authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations.
