RBI Agartala marks National Sports Day with ‘Sunday on Cycle’ community ride

The Reserve Bank of India, Agartala celebrated National Sports Day on Sunday with a community cycling event titled “Sunday on Cycle.” The ride rolled out from the RBI office at 8:00 a.m. and concluded at the same venue after passing the city’s iconic Oxygen Park, spreading the message of everyday fitness, clean mobility and road safety.
The initiative was organised solely by RBI Agartala, with on-ground support from the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation (ACF). About 20–25 cyclists—RBI employees (men and women) riding alongside ACF members—maintained disciplined formations, used hand signals, and observed a no-litter, no-horn code along the route.
Leading from the front, Shri Surendra Nidar, General Manager (Officer-in-Charge), RBI Agartala, pedalled with staff and volunteers. A passionate cyclist, Shri Nidar (52) has been motivating colleagues to adopt short bicycle commutes and make daily cycling at the workplace a habit.
“Cycling is the simplest investment in our health and our city. I urge colleagues to try short commutes by cycle and bring that habit to work every day,” Shri Nidar said.
As part of the National Sports Day celebrations, RBI Agartala also hosted a friendly inter-departmental cricket tournament on Friday, 29 August 2025, encouraging wide employee participation and team spirit across the Bank.
Thanking the cycling community for its support, an RBI representative noted that the Bank’s Sports Day observance aimed to encourage active lifestyles while showcasing safe, low-carbon transport. Gopesh Debnath, Bicycle Mayor of Agartala, NSS Programme Officer (Government College of Art & Craft) and Founder, ACF, said the ride reflects how institutions and citizens can work together to build a cycling culture in the city.
