Revenue Minister and IPFT supremo NC Debbarma passes away, three-day state mourning declared
Revenue minister, NC Debbarma, who is also the president of Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), breathed his last following a massive cerebral stroke at GBP hospital here on Sunday.
The veteran tribal leader was 80 and left behind by wife, four sons, three daughters, relatives, politicians and well wishers.
For the past few months, he was unwell and Debbarma, who has been suffering from chronic diabetics, jolted by cerebral stroke on December 30 at his residence.
“He was immediately rushed to IGM hospital from where he was taken to GBP hospital. Today, he breathed his last”, Amit Debbarma, spokesperson of IPF NC, after retiring from service as Director, All India Radio (AIR), Agartala had formed a separate political party-Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) raisin slogan of Tipraland in 2009.
Before the 2018 Assembly elections, the BJP forged an alliance with the regional political party and it proved handy to topple the Manik Sarkar led government.
The IPFT under his leadership has won eight ST reserve seats out of total 9 Assembly constituencies it had contested in the last Assembly.
Debbarma was included in the Biplab Kumar Deb cabinet.
Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed deep condolence over the death of the veteran tribal leader. The state government declared a state-morning for three days as a mark to respect the departed leader.
Opposition leader and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar also expressed his condolence over the demise of veteran leader and also expressed his sympathy to the bereaved family.
