Road accident: Ex-CM wife injured, CM concerned
Panchali Bhattacharjee, wife of former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar admitted to the ICU unit of GB Hospital after she suffered critical head injuries, when a Maruti car dashed from her back at IGM Choumohani area of Agartala on Saturday evening.
Sources said that Mrs. Panchali Bhattacharjee, a senior leader of CITU was returning back to their official quarters through a rickshaw and when her rickshaw reached IGM Choumohani area, a speeding Maruti car dashed from her back. As a result, she fell down in the ground and suffered critical head injuries and injuries to other parts of her body.
Immediately, some local people shifted her to IGM Hospital and after primary treatment, she was referred to G B Hospital. Later, specialist doctors like Dr Siddha Reddy and Dr Pradip Bhowmik after necessary diagnosis shifted her in the ICU unit of the hospital.
Hospital sources said that the condition of Mrs. Bhattacharjee is stated to be stable.
While, after hearing the incident, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha , who is in Shillong to attend the Northeast Council (NEC) meeting expressed his concern over the incident and took some immediate measures for proper treatment of Mrs. Bhattacharjee.
Chief Minister after speaking with opposition leader Manik Sarkar had spoken to neurosurgeon Dr Siddha Reddy and enquired her treatment. The Chief Minister also spoke to Chief Secretary J K Sinha and health secretary Dr Debasish Basu and instructed them to visit the hospital to enquire about the treatment process.
As per instruction by the Chief Minister, the Health secretary immediately visited GB Hospital and with senior doctors and met Mrs. Bhattacharjee and issued necessary directions to better treatment.
Chief Minister Dr Saha wishing her speedy recovery has also issued directions to the Health department that if necessary to refer Mrs. Bhattacharjee to other parts of the country for best possible treatment.
Meanwhile, after the incident, senior CPI (M) leaders were also rushed to the hospital to enquire about the health status of Mrs. Bhattacharjee. Senior Congress leader and MLA Sudip Roy Barman with his wife also visited the hospital and met Manik Sarkar and his ailing wife.
