Six new waste collection vehicles have been added to West Tripura district to strengthen waste management and sanitation services.

The vehicles were flagged off on Wednesday from the office premises of the District Magistrate and Collector in Agartala by the Sabhadhipati of West Tripura Zilla Parishad, Bishwajit Shil. The programme was attended by West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Assistant District Magistrate Arup Deb and other administrative officials.

According to officials, each vehicle was procured at a cost of around Rs 11 lakh. Earlier, three similar vehicles had already been provided to different blocks, while six more were added in the latest phase. More vehicles are expected to be procured in the future to further strengthen cleanliness initiatives.

The vehicles will mainly be used in markets and various block areas of the district to improve sanitation and waste management services.

Speaking at the programme, Sabhadhipati Bishwajit Shil said the initiative would play an important role in achieving the objectives of the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the vision of a clean Tripura under Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha. He added that the electric vehicles would help save fuel and reduce environmental pollution.

District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar also stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness and urged people to cooperate with the administration in making West Tripura cleaner and more beautiful.
