Soon Agartala city will have City Hospital, Mayor, health secretary visits proposed site
In order to provide better health care facilities for the citizens of capital city Agartala, soon the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) in association with the Health department of Tripura government will start functioning as a ‘Civil Hospital’ inside the city.
On Thursday, a jumbo team of officials led by AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder and Health secretary Kiran Gitte along with Mission Director of National Health Mission (NHM) Rajib Datta, AMC Commissioner Dr Shailesh Kumar Yadav and in charge director of Health, Dr Sanjib Kumar Debbarma visited the visited the old Municipal Corporation Office,NBCC BHavan at hearth of the city’s Jackson Gate area, where the proposed Civil hospital will be set up within a short period.
While, after visiting the complex, speaking with media persons , Health secretary Kiran Gitte said that the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha to improve the health facilities and its infrastructures are visiting different health institutions of the state during past few days and he wanted to provide more better health facilities to the citizens of the state.
As per the plan of the state government, the Health department in association with AMC is now contemplating to start a Civil Hospital for city dwellers to reduce the pressure on IGM and GB Hospitals, said Gitte.
Prioritizing the health services, the state government is taking this significant step, said Gitte and added that the number of patients rising daily at Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (GB) and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGM), the two prime referral hospitals in the state capital.
He said that the proposed hospital will be managed by the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Thursday, the team surveyed the site for the proposed hospital.
Gitte added that the proposed civil hospital will have infrastructures like a sub divisional hospital and initially Outpatient Department (OPD) and In-Patient Department (IPD) services with 50 bed capacities will start functioning. The Health department of the state government will provide all medical facilities including equipment, doctors, nurses and paramedics for the hospital and both IGM and GB Hospital will be the referral and super-specialty hospitals, said Gitte.
He said that soon AMC will send a proposal to the state government and the government will decide as per the plan. All the primary health centres and sub-centres inside AMC areas will connect with the proposed Civil Hospital and if their specialty service is needed for any patient, then they will be referred to IGM or in GH Hospital.
Mayor Dipak Majumder said that in the health care sector of the state in recent years , the people of the state are witnessing massive development. He said under the present government led by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, people of Tripura have been blessed with immense improvement in health services. The government has given utmost priority to the crucial health sector, said Majumder and added that with an aim to relieve the extra burden on GBP and IGM hospitals where thousands of patients visit every day for availing medical services, the government has planned to establish a new dedicated hospital for Agartala city.
Having inspected the old Municipal Corporation office for this purpose, the Mayor said that if all goes according to plan, the new hospital could become a reality within a short period and will provide both primary and secondary healthcare services to the citizens of the city and its adjoining areas.
