Finally, the Southwest Monsoon has advanced into entire parts of Tripura on June 7th along with other Northeastern states on the same day, which entered Kerala on June 4th.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre, Agartala, has announced the arrival of the Southwest Monsoon, marking the beginning of the state’s rainy season.
According to the weather department, the Monsoon has advanced into some areas of the state two days later than its normal onset date.
The IMD stated that the Southwest Monsoon officially entered parts of Tripura under normal climatic conditions, the Monsoon is expected to reach the state around June 5. Despite the slight delay, meteorologists consider the onset to be within the usual range of seasonal variability.
The weather department also noted that the Monsoon had arrived significantly earlier last year, advancing across the entire state on May 26, 2025.
Meanwhile, widespread rainfall activity has already been observed across Tripura. During the past 24 hours, light to moderate rain was recorded at many places in the state, indicating favorable conditions for further advancement of the Monsoon in the coming days.
The arrival of the Southwest monsoon is crucial for Tripura’s agriculture sector, replenishing water resources and supporting cultivation activities across the state. With rainfall expected to increase gradually, farmers and residents can look forward to a more active Monsoon phase in the weeks ahead.
According to the IMD, weather conditions remain conducive for further progress of the Monsoon over the remaining parts of Tripura and adjoining Northeastern states.
While, the temperatures in state capital with maximum temperatures rising to 35.5 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature was recorded at 27.1 degrees Celsius on Sunday morning. Though the humidity level is at maximum 99 % recorded at the state capital.
IMD in its weather prediction for next day said a generally cloudy sky with light to heavy rain and thunderstorm would occur in different parts of Tripura and issued warning that thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Tripura and heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over Sepahijala, Gomati and Tripura districts of the state.
