Storm devastates Kailashahar: Electricity service disrupted, massive protest by consumers, repair efforts hindered
In the aftermath of a ferocious storm that swept through Kailashahar on April 26th night, large swathes of the area were plunged into darkness as electricity services were severely disrupted. Despite concerted efforts by skilled repair teams, the damage was extensive and repair work was impeded by various challenges.
Reports said that over 60 power poles were shattered, with at least 50 more toppled, and approximately five kilometers of electrical lines torn asunder. The scale of destruction overwhelmed repair crews, who faced shortages of essential parts necessary for swift restoration efforts.
Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) through a statement has expressed profound regret to consumers for the prolonged outage and pledged to expedite restoration processes. However, despite appeals for cooperation, a faction of disgruntled electricity consumers staged a protest at the Sai Computer Limited office, the designated authority for managing electricity services in Kailashahar.
TSECL added that the protest escalated into chaos, with demonstrators vandalizing property and causing widespread panic among staff members. This unsettling development further hampered repair efforts, as workers were deterred by safety concerns in the volatile atmosphere.
The situation has left repair teams and workers fearful, leading to a cessation of repair operations in various locations. TSECL has appealed to both the local administration and power consumers for full cooperation in addressing the crisis. They emphasized the urgency of collaboration to expedite repairs and restore electricity services to the affected areas, including Kailashahar.
Despite the setbacks, TSECL added that they remain hopeful that with collective support from all stakeholders, including the administration and the community at large, normalcy can be swiftly restored. They underscored the importance of swift action and cooperation to mitigate the inconvenience faced by residents and businesses grappling with the prolonged power outage.
Efforts are underway to engage with the local administration and power consumers to facilitate a conducive environment for repair work to resume promptly. TSECL reiterated its commitment to working tirelessly to address the challenges posed by the storm and to ensure the timely restoration of electricity services to the affected regions.
As the situation unfolds, TSECL continues to urge all sections of society, including the administration, to extend their cooperation and support in expediting repair efforts. They emphasize that through concerted action and solidarity, the challenges posed by the storm can be overcome, and normalcy restored to the storm-ravaged communities of Kailashahar and beyond.
In response to the extensive power outage following the recent storm in Kailashahar, concerted efforts are underway to prioritize the restoration of electricity services to critical facilities such as hospitals and drinking water sources. Recognizing the urgent need for uninterrupted power supply in these areas, initiatives have been launched to expedite the process of restoring electricity connections, said TSECL.
They added that significant progress has already been made, with electricity connections restored to multiple sources of drinking water, ensuring continued access to safe and potable water for residents. Electricity service has been restored to the water pump house in Govindpur which has caused problems due to lack of electricity. Additionally, efforts have been directed towards providing power connections to key areas, including Gobindpur and the Public Works Department (PWD) area of Kaila substation, as well as the District Magistrate (DM) compound area under the Gaurnagar substation.
These targeted restoration efforts aim to alleviate the impact of the power outage on essential services and vital infrastructure. By prioritizing electricity supply to critical facilities, authorities are working to ensure the well-being and safety of the community, particularly in times of crisis.
