Successful police raids against drug smugglers: Two arrested with Ganja, large plantation destroyed
The state police, in coordinated operations with security forces, arrested two drug smugglers on Friday from Sonamura and Agartala Railway Station, including an inter-state trafficker, and recovered significant quantities of dry cannabis (Ganja). In a separate operation, a massive illegal ganja plantation was destroyed in Sepahijala district.
According to OC of Sonamura Police Station, Tapash Das, acting on secret information, a joint team of police and the BSF conducted a raid at the residence of notorious drug smuggler Dilwar Hussain at Kalapania village. During the raid, the team recovered a large drum filled with dry ganja from his house. Hussain was arrested on the spot, and a luxury car allegedly used for transporting drugs was also seized.
In another operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Agartala Railway Station arrested an inter-state drug smuggler before he boarded a long-distance train. The accused, identified as Sikandar Kumar from Bihar, was found in possession of 3 kilograms of dry ganja. The GRP OC said Kumar is an active member of an inter-state smuggling network. He will be produced before a local court on Saturday with a police remand plea for further interrogation.
Meanwhile, in a major crackdown on illegal cultivation, police and other security forces launched a joint raid at Konaban and Radhanagar under Madhupur Police Station in Sepahijala district. During the operation, approximately 60,000 ganja plants were identified and destroyed across 30 plots on forest tilla land.
Police said the operation was carried out jointly by Madhupur Police Station, personnel of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), and staff of the Forest Department. The coordinated action targeted widespread illegal cultivation across the two areas, successfully eliminating the large-scale plantation.
