Taxpayers play an important role for overall development of country: Finance Minister
The sum collected from taxes is used for development of the country. The taxpayers play an important role in the overall development of the country, enunciated Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy in GST Day commemoration programme organized today at Agartala Town Hall. The Minister called upon everyone to be a part of nation’s overall development by timely paying taxes. He urged all to get GST linked soon those who have not yet got linked with GST.
Tripura has set a revenue target of Rs 3,000 crore this fiscal, said r Pranajit Singha Roy and added that the state's tax collection has doubled after the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST.
"Initially, there were doubts on GST introduction in the country. People even faced difficulties after the new tax regime kicked off, but over the years all the bottlenecks have been addressed. Our tax collection has more than doubled under the GST regime," Singha Roy.
He said the tax collection, which was around Rs 1,300 crore before GST rollout, increased to Rs 2,765 crore in the last fiscal.
"Now, we have set a target of over Rs 3,000 crore for the 2023-24 FY. We are trying to connect new tax payers who still remain outside the GST ambit. In a state like Tripura, GST means a lot to carry out development work and welfare activities," he said.
The Minister also said, GST was first launched in the country on this day in 2017. GST has proved to be a helpful procedure in terms of taxpaying although primarily businessmen had to face few problems. As the taxpaying process got more transparent, so has the amount of tax collection increased. The Minister said, different works are being implemented successfully in the state along with other states of the country for welfare of people under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There has been huge improvement in rail communication system besides construction of 6 National Highways in the state.
Secretary of Finance department Brijesh Pandey lauding the taxpayers said, the amount of tax collected has increased as compared to previous years after the commencement of GST. He called upon everyone to be a part of nation’s overall development by getting linked with GST. Additional Secretary of Finance department Akinchan Sarkar, Chief Commissioner of State Tax Rakhi Biswas and Joint Director of CGST Samuel Waipu also spoke on the occasion. Successful businessmen were awarded for timely payment of taxes. The Finance Minister along with other guests handed over certificates and memento to them. Vote of thanks was delivered by Assistant Tax Commissioner Dibakar Chandra Dey.
