Following media reports highlighting the plight of an elderly woman living in distress, MLA of Teliamura Assembly constituency, Kalyani Saha Roy visited her residence on Monday and extended assistance to improve her living conditions.

A few days ago, several media outlets reported the difficult circumstances of Santana Bala Das, a resident of Gamaibari area under Ward No. 15 of the Teliamura Municipal Council. Burdened by old age, the elderly woman was reportedly living alone without family support. It was also alleged that her old-age pension, her only source of livelihood, had been discontinued for a prolonged period.

After learning about the situation, MLA Kalyani Saha Roy personally visited the elderly woman’s home, interacted with her, and assessed her condition. She provided essential commodities and financial assistance as an immediate relief measure.

Speaking with local media persons during the visit, the MLA said that the pension had been temporarily stopped due to certain reasons and assured that steps would be taken to restore it at the earliest. She further stated that arrangements would be made in the coming days to provide necessary electricity connections, housing support, and sanitation facilities, including a toilet, at the beneficiary’s residence.

Also present during the visit was Ward No. 15 Councillor Nitin Kumar Saha, who enquired about the elderly woman’s problems and assured all possible assistance.

The MLA also visited the residence of another widowed and underprivileged elderly woman in the same locality. She interacted with her and extended support to address her difficulties.

The initiative taken by the elected representatives to stand beside the elderly women has been widely appreciated by local residents, who expressed satisfaction over the timely intervention and assistance.
