Theatre always acts as a mirror of society, its artistic practice must be continues: CM
Theatre always reflects the picture of society and it is a mirror expressed artistically highlighting different aspects of human life, which is one of the most powerful social mediums and Tripura has a legacy of practicing drama for decades, said Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.
Inaugurating the 11-day state-level Theatre festival-2023, organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) department at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on Monday, the Chief Minister said that theatre can play a significant role in guiding and navigating society in the right direction.
After meticulous visualization and observation, dramatists describe the reflection of society through an amazing art form called the theatre, said Dr Saha. The Chief Minister expressed his optimism that despite the advent of electronic domination, theatre being the two-way communication will never lose its essence and continue to hold its place in the heart of theatre-loving people. He said education through theatre is always interesting and effective. His government through the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs has been actively engaged to enrich and sustain this creative industry. This festival will play as a catalyst to encourage the younger generation to practice drama and a good number of theatrical talents are expected to come to the fore the CM added. The inaugural play “Pre-Paid” of Surapancham of Agartala was staged amid huge applauds and admiration of all. The play was directed by theater personality Partha Majumdar. A large number of theatre lovers thronged Rabindra Satabarsiki Hall No-2 this evening and enjoyed the premier show of the theatre festival ‘Pre-paid’.
Eminent theatre personality Tripuresh Majumdar Memorial Awardee Nani Deb and Bimbisar Bhattacherjee, Director, ICA also spoke at the program. The Director ICA said that during the periods a total of 21 plays will be staged in the festival. Eminent theatre artist Manik Dutta felicitated the CM with a memento. The fest will continue till November 30, 2023. State Cultural Advisory Committee’s Vice Chairman Subrata Chakraborty presided over the inaugural event of the theatre festival.
