Three-tier Panchayat elections, almost 68.27 % Gram Panchayat seats uncontested
After scrutiny of the nomination papers for three-tier Gram Panchayat elections, the ruling BJP is going secure a total of 68.27% seats of Gram Panchayat uncontested from 606 Panchayats, while there will fight tough fight among the candidates of BJP and INDIA Bloc partners in Panchayat Samities and Zilla Parishads.
Official sources said that the Tripura State Election Commission (SEC) for August 8th three-tier Panchayat elections has received 10,165 nomination papers from different parties including from BJP, CPI(M), Congress and Tipra-Motha.
Sources said that from different returning officers, the SEC received 4,349 single candidates in Gram Panchayat, 190 single candidates for Panchayat Samities, and 2 single candidates from different parties for Zilla Parishad.
The last date for making nominations was July 18, the date for scrutiny was July 19, and the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is July 22. The election will be held on August 8, while counting is on August 12, and the election process will be completed on August 17 for 6,370 seats under 3,517 constituencies of 606 Gram Panchayats, 35 Panchayat Samities with 423 seats and 116 seats under 8 Zilla Parishads.
Sources said that the SEC said that they have received 10,165 nomination papers including 8,998 for Gram Panchayat, 783 for Panchayat Samities, and 384 for Zila Parishad.
For the Gram Panchayat, BJP has submitted 6,337 nomination papers, CPI (M) 1,442, Congress 810, Tipra Motha 231, CPI (ML) 4, CPI 3, and 167 independent candidates.
In Panchayat Samiti, BJP submitted 433 nomination papers, CPI (M) 205, Congress 112, Tipra Motha 15, CPI (ML) 2, CPI 2 and 14 independent candidates.
For Zilla Parishad, BJP submitted 160 nominations, CPI (M) 115, Congress 98, Tipra Motha 3, Amra Bangali 2, CPI 1, and 5 more independent candidates.
There are 33 percent reservations of seats for women; there are 6370 seats in 606 Gram Panchayats, 423 seats in 35 Panchayat Samitis and 116 seats in 8 Zilla Parishads.
The SEC sources said that a total of 12,94,153 voters including over 6.35 lakh women electorates are eligible to cast their votes in the local body elections.
The ballot papers in white colour from Gram Panchayat seats, pink for Panchayat Samitis seat and green colour for Zilla Parishad seats will be used for polling.
The counting halls will be set up at block headquarters with approval of SEC and counting of polled votes will start from morning 8 AM on August 12 and will continue till completion, said the SEC.
