West Bengal Trinamool Congress’s spokesperson and newly elected MLA Kunal Ghosh appeared before the Udaipur Sub-Divisional Court on Monday in connection with a defamation case filed against him.
Soon after his arrival at the court complex, journalists crowded the court premises and speaking to the media after attending the court proceedings, Kunal Ghosh said that he had personally appeared before the court despite having the option to avoid it. He stated that on October 31, 2021, a meeting of Trinamool Congress (TMC) had been organised in Agartala, and during that meeting, a person, Sajal Bhowmik filed an FIR at RK Pur police station of Udaipur against Ghosh. Based on those comments, a defamation case was later filed against him.
According to sources, the case had been pending for a long time, and the court had reportedly issued an arrest warrant against the MLA and on Monday, the charge-sheet of the case was filed at the court. Kunal Ghosh said before the media that he had applied before the court seeking cancellation of the warrant. The court granted him bail after hearing the matter, his lawyer confirmed.
