Total voters turnout stand at 89.95%, women voter turnout higher than male voters
The final voter turnout across 60 assembly constituencies of Tripura including postal ballots recorded at 89.95 % and ECI ruled out any re-poll in 3,337 polling booths.
The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Tripura through a press statement said that the poll for 13th general election to the legislative assembly of Tripura held on February 16 in 3,337 polling stations peacefully and the final turnout after completion of scrutiny stands at 89.95% including voting through postal ballots. The voting percentages through EVMs recorded at 87.76% and postal ballots is 2.19 %, which are in total 89.95%
The CEO office also said that scrutiny of poll reports for all 60 constituencies was conducted on Friday (February 17th) by the general observers appointed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in presence of contesting candidates. During scrutiny of various poll reports, no irregularities was noticed by the observers in any of the polling stations and no recommendation for re-poll was made by the observers in their scrutiny report.
While, the women voters’ turnout in Thursday’s elections to the Tripura assembly was 3.05 per cent higher than their male counterpart, officials said on Friday.
Election officials said that 87.63 per cent of the 28.14 lakh voters in Tripura exercised their franchise in Thursday’s elections to the 60-member Tripura assembly.
“This 87.63 per cent turnout calculated on the basis of the votes polled in EVM (Electronic voting Machine) and excluding the votes of the postal ballot and service votes, cast by the polling, security personnel, those who were engaged in the polling process, 80 plus senior citizens and physically challenged voters. The postal ballot and service vote’s percentage would be known later,” an election official said.
The official said that 89.17 per cent of the 13, 99,289 women voters and 86.12 per cent of the 14, 15,233 men voters cast their votes in Thursday’s balloting.
Voter turnout was 91.82 per cent and 89.38 per cent in 2013 and 2018 Assembly elections, respectively.
CEO, Kiran Gitte said, Tripura has maintained its tradition of recording the high voting percentage during Thursday’s assembly election as well.
He said, it was almost a cent percent violence-free polling except few stray incidents and the state has set an example to the people of the country on how peaceful conduct of polling is held. The CEO thanked the people for strengthening democracy.
The EVMs since Thursday have been kept in strong rooms amidst tight security of the Central Armed Police Force. The counting of votes would be held on March 2 along with Meghalaya and Nagaland, where assembly elections would be held on February 27. A total of 259 candidates including 31 women were in the fray in Tripura.
