Tripura Assembly Budget Session to start from Friday; three new University Bills likely
The Budget session of the Tripura Assembly will begin on Friday with the opening address by h Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu.
Earlier, on March 6th last the detailed schedule and business of the upcoming session were finalized at a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) at the assembly complex and Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Paul, who is currently acting as the Speaker, presided over the meeting.
As per the business schedules of the opening day of the Assembly, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu will deliver his opening address and 15 minutes of speech, the laying of the Governor's address on the table of the House by the secretary of Assembly.
Then, the House will move the motion of thanks to the address by the Governor and presentation and adaptation of report of the Business Advisory Committee and in the final hour of the opening day of Budget session, obituary reference to the passing away of Speaker of the Assembly, Biswa Bandhu Sen.
It may be recalled here that after the BAC meeting held on March 6th last, giving details of the business, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the state government would introduce three bills in the Assembly to establish three new universities -- Tripura Women's University, Tripura University of Health Sciences and Tripura Technical University. He said that on the first day of the session, after an obituary in memory of Late Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen, the Finance Minister will table the Supplementary Budget for the financial year 2025-26 in the House.
The Minister also said that Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy will present the Budget for the financial year 2026–27 on March 16. Pranajit Singha Roy will present the third Budget of the BJP-led government's second term. The Budget session will continue till March 25, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister said.
Official sources said that the new Speaker of the Assembly might be elected during the session following the demise of sitting Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen on December 26 last year.
Sources added that the formal process for electing a new Speaker will be held on March 16 next.
The Budget is expected to provide higher allocation to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), as the 30-member tribal autonomous body is likely to go to crucial polls in April next.
