The self-enumeration process for Census 2027 will begin across Tripura from July 17 and continue until July 31, allowing residents to submit their household details online from the comfort of their homes.

Announcing the initiative at a press conference held at the Civil Secretariat on Thursday, Director of Census Operations Ratan Biswas said citizens can complete the self-enumeration by visiting the official Census portal. The online process requires families to furnish information on 33 parameters, including housing status, drinking water, electricity, toilet facilities, internet connectivity and other household-related details.

He said that after entering the required information and providing the mobile number of any family member, the details can be uploaded to the portal, following which a unique SE-ID (Self-Enumeration ID) will be generated.

Biswas further informed that the House Listing and Housing Census will be conducted from August 1 to August 30. During this phase, government officials will visit households to verify the submitted information. Residents will have to present their SE-ID to the enumerators, and any errors made during self-enumeration can be corrected during the verification process.

He said the self-enumeration system is expected to significantly reduce the time required for the census exercise. Around 8,000 government officials have been engaged to carry out the process across the state.

Highlighting the digital nature of the exercise, the Director said Census 2027 will be conducted entirely through digital means, eliminating the need for paperwork or physical signatures. He also noted that the previous national census was conducted in 2011.

Director of Economics and Statistics Debananda Reang, Joint Director P. Darlong, and P.N. Chowdhury, DRGP, Census Operations, were also present at the press conference.
