Tripura: Cocaine recovered, drug syndicate with Pakistan link busted
In a major breakthrough against narcotics trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Customs Department, dismantled an international drug syndicate with suspected links to Pakistan. The operation, conducted on Monday in Agartala, led to the seizure of 800 grams of high-purity cocaine valued at nearly Rs 8 crore, and the arrest of two Indian drug peddlers.
According to preliminary investigations, the syndicate involved Pakistani nationals who collaborated with Indian operatives across several states to facilitate trafficking in the Northeastern region.
Officials said the Customs Department received specific intelligence inputs about a network smuggling cocaine from Pakistan into India via the Punjab border. The contraband was reportedly transported through surface routes to Tripura and other Northeastern states, from where it was further smuggled to Bangladesh and Southeast Asian countries through Mizoram.
Based on actionable intelligence in the Tripura sector, the joint operation was launched on Monday (November 17). Two Indian nationals were apprehended in Agartala with 800 grams of high-grade cocaine in their possession. Assistance from the Assam Rifles was sought for surveillance and perimeter security during the operation.
A Defence Spokesperson confirmed that the seizure marks one of the most significant cocaine recoveries in the region in recent months. The official added that the coordinated action underscores the unwavering commitment of the Assam Rifles to creating a drug-free society and curbing narcotics trafficking across the Northeast.
“The force remains steadfast in protecting the youth from the dangers of drugs and ensuring the safety and security of the region,” the statement said.
