Following the mysterious death of a 22-year-old woman on Wednesday midninght employed at Shantiniketan Medical College in Maheshkhala area of Agartala, own by Moloy Pit, a trusted aid of West Bengal’s tainted Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal , the Home department of Tripura government ordered to conduct a Magisterial enquiry on the incident.
As per the order of the Home department issued on June 11, 2026 signed by Additional Secretary, Tarit Kanti Chakma said that “Dr Vishal Kumat, District Magistrate (DM) of West Tripura district shall conduct a magisterial enquiry into the incident and submit a detailed report covering all aspects to the Home department within 15-days from the date of the issuance of this order”.
It may be recalled here that mysterious death of Manisha Das (22), daughter of Biswajit Das, a resident of Madhuban on late Wednesday night in the medical college campus, triggering widespread concern and prompting a police investigation.
She earlier worked as a caretaker of the medical college and recently posted at the examination cell of the medical college.
According to reports, Manisha’s body was recovered from the college premises on Wednesday midnight. Following the incident, police reached the spot and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding her death. On Thursday morning in presence of her relatives and college authorities, the body of the victim girl was shifted to GB Hospital morgue for autopsy.
While, officer-in-charge (OC) of Amtali police station, Paritosh Das said that the forensic team of Tripura police have collected all circumstantial evidence from the spot and police also collected all CCTV footage of the medical college.
He said that after the incident was reported, police found her body in hanging condition and at present they are investigating the whole incident.
Family members of the deceased have alleged that she was murdered and have demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the case. The allegations have intensified public concern, with many drawing parallels to recent incidents involving crimes against women in institutional settings.
Police officials have stated that all angles are being examined and that the exact cause of death will be determined following the post-mortem examination and forensic analysis.
Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses. Allegations of rape or murder have not been officially confirmed by authorities. The investigation is ongoing, and police are yet to establish the exact circumstances of the death.
Meanwhile, local sources claimed that Manisha Das was murdered after rape at the medical college premise of tainted Moloy Pit, which has recalled the Kolkata’s RG Kar medical college rape and murder incident.
