In a significant step towards modernizing forest governance, the Forest Integrated Geospatial Solution (FIGS) Application was launched on Saturday at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala under the Sustainable Catchment Forest Management Project and the Forest Department of Tripura.
The application was inaugurated by Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma in the presence of Principal Secretary of the Forest department, Rabindra Kumar Samal and other senior officials.
The digital platform has been developed to strengthen evidence-based decision-making and enhance the use of advanced technology in forest management. By integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, mobile-based field data collection, and Management Information Systems (MIS), the application will enable efficient monitoring, planning, and management of forest and watershed resources across the state.
Speakers at the launch programme emphasized that the initiative comes at a crucial time when climate change, environmental degradation, and increasing pressure on natural resources pose growing challenges. They noted that the platform would play a vital role in the digital transformation of forest governance and help improve the effectiveness of conservation efforts.
Officials said the application is expected to position Tripura as a frontrunner in technology-driven forest administration and could serve as a model for similar initiatives in other states.
According to project authorities, the Forest Integrated Geospatial Solution Application will support forest conservation, biodiversity protection, water resource management, and the sustainable livelihood development of forest-dependent communities through improved monitoring, data-driven planning, and informed decision-making.
