Tripura sets example in blood donation during COVID: CM
Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday said that the resurgence of blood donation in the state should continue in the future as there is no substitute for blood.
“There is no substitute for blood. Other body organs like the heart, kidneys, etc, can be transplanted, but it is not possible to do this in the case of blood. Only one person can save another's life by donating blood. So there is no other donation as noble as blood donation. The resurgence of blood donation in the state should continue in the future,” said Dr Saha.
Dr Saha said this while inaugurating a Mega Blood Donation Camp organized at BJP Ramnagar election office adjacent to Krishnanagar, Agartala, on the initiative of Ramnagar Mandal.
On the occasion, Dr. Saha said that the election process is currently underway in the state. So this kind of blood donation camp is very important to meet the shortage of blood in blood banks at this time.
“The people of this state have set an example for the whole country by donating blood even during the COVID situation. Blood banks now have all modern arrangements. There are as many as 6 blood separation centers. There are currently 14 blood banks in the state. Out of these, 12 are public, and 2 are private. But even so, blood cannot be manufactured. People have to donate it to each other. Blood has no religion, caste, or gender. There is much to be learned from this, that we are all one,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that about 40 lakh people live in the state, and in terms of population, blood banks of the state need to have at least 40 thousand units of blood to store.
“And it can be fulfilled through blood donation with the combined efforts of all. Everyone should come forward in voluntary blood donation as a social responsibility. Because there is no substitute for blood. Blood is produced in the human body. In blood donation, spiritual relationships and feelings are created between people. It has no religious caste. The best and noblest gift of life is blood donation,” he added.
BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharya, tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) mayor Dipak Majumdar, state BJP vice-president Papia Dutta, and others were present as distinguished guests on the occasion.
