In a major boost to Tripura's tea industry, the state has taken another significant step towards expanding its global footprint with the formal launch of the export of 23.31 metric tonnes of premium-quality Tripura tea to several European countries.
The inaugural shipment was flagged off on Friday from the Durgabari Central Tea Processing Factory , at the outskirts of Agartala, marking a new milestone in the international marketing of Tripura tea.
A ceremonial programme was held at the factory premises to mark the occasion, highlighting the state's growing presence in the global tea market and opening new avenues for the export of its high-quality produce.
The event was attended by Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC) chairman Samir Ghosh, Industries and Commerce department’s secretary Kiran Gitte, senior officials and other dignitaries. They jointly inaugurated the export process by flagging off the consignment destined for Europe.
Tripura tea has earned recognition over the years for its distinctive flavour and superior quality, cultivated in the state's lush green and hilly terrain. The latest export initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen the brand identity of Tripura tea in international markets and expand its global reach.
Officials believe the export of premium tea to Europe will create fresh opportunities for tea workers, small tea growers, and businesses associated with the tea sector. It is also expected to enhance the global reputation of Tripura's tea industry and pave the way for access to larger international markets in the future.
