TSECL adopt all-out measures to stop power outages, massive renovation work starts, MD
In order to reduce the statewide power outages and to provide relief to the lakhs of power consumers across Tripura, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has taken massive renovation activities and after laying of under-ground cable, the capital city Agartala and few other parts of the state will not suffer any power outages.
Addressing a press conference at Bidyut Bhavan in Agartala on Wednesday, the Managing Director of TSECL, Biswajit Basu accompanied other top officials of corporation said that on Tuesday Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath along with all concerned engineers of TSECL and Secretary of Power department attended a meeting to resolve the technical faults over distribution of power supply and to adopt measures to stop power outages.
Basu said that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for laying underground power cables in Agartala city has been initiated and with funds from Asian Development Bank (ADB), the capital city will get rid of power outages due to technical faults and from natural disasters.
Basu highlighted the rising power demand in Tripura, with peak hour requirements currently at approximately 300 MW and projected to exceed 750 MW by the year 2030.
He said that the work on laying underground cables in Agartala has already commenced. This project will be executed in two phases: one within the Smart City project boundaries and the other by TSECL. Both 11 kV and Low Tension lines will be installed underground and TSECL has begun preparing the DPR and is arranging the necessary financial resources.
In order to provide instant relief if any power failure is reported from any parts of 67 power subdivisions of the state, the TSECL has deployed power officials and linemen around the clock across the state’s 67 power sub-divisions.
Basu said that over 20,000 distribution transformers have been installed, with several due for replacement soon. And from the first week of August next, the statewide maintenance work for Durga Puja will start including replacement of faulty and old transformers as per requirement.
Replying to different media queries, Basu said that they are now enhancing the capacity of call centres and will provide mobile numbers at the sub-divisional level, ensuring that residents can easily contact their local power office for any complaints.
He also sought the co-operation of all consumers during power outages for technical faults and assured TSECL employees are working round the clock for seamless power supply across the state. He also admitted that sometime, massive power outages reported from different parts of the state due to transmission network failure and over-loading. Basu said that as Tripura always gets the maximum number of lightning during Monsoon and rainy season, is the major factor for fault of electric transformers and now, the corporation is also working to reduce such kind of problems.
