Two arrested for lynching a youth on suspicion of cattle theft
A day after a 41-year-old man from Baldakhal area of Agartala was lynched on suspicion of cattle lifter; the Agartala city police on Friday arrested two persons in connection with the crime.
On Thursday, a group of youth from East Chandrapur area under East Agartala police station allegedly lynched to death to Nandu Sarkar on Eid day over suspect of cow lifting.
After the incident, the family members of the victim youth registered a case of murder at East Agartala police station.
Officer in-charge (OC) East Agartala police station, Rana Chatterjee on Friday said that based on preliminary investigation, police has arrested two culprits identified as Bhaskar Das (25) and Dibakar Das (27) of Baldakhal area over their involvement in the lunching incident.
He said that a police investigation is in progress and more assailants involved with the murder of Nandu Sarkar will be arrested. He said both arrested persons were produced before a local court with police remand appeals for interrogation and hoped that soon police will be able to arrest other criminals involved with crime.
Chatterjee said that they are investigating the matter to find out the motive behind the murder.
On Thursday , victim youth Nandu Sarkar was tied up with an electric pillar on the basis of suspicion of cattle theft and assaulted him.
After the incident was reported, police rushed to the spot and rescued injured Nandu, who was admitted to hospital, where succumbed due to his critical injuries.
His wife, Sonali Sarkar said that her husband, who worked at a meat shop, was beaten up by locals in the presence of the police. She filed a complaint regarding the incident.
