In a successful operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) of Agartala Railway station arrested two drug peddlers and seized large quantities of dry Cannabis (Ganja).

Giving details, OC of GRP station of Agartala Railway said that on Saturday during regular checking of Railway station, police personnel noticed suspected movements of two suspected youths, who were moving in the parking area with bags.

GRP personnel immediately detained them and in the course of searching their bags, police recovered a total of 26 kilograms of dry Ganja, concealed in many packets inside two bags. Preliminary interrogation revealed that they were en-route to Guwahati and were trying to board a long distance train.

Following the seizure, a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, (NDPS Act) at the Agartala GRP Police Station and arrested two drug smugglers, identified as Abdul Kadir of Indira Nagar area of Melaghar and Dipak Sarkar of Palatana area under Udaipur subdivision of Gomati district.

Authorities suspect that more individuals may be involved in the case, and further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.

GRP added that both arrested drug peddlers will be produced before a local court on Sunday with police remand appeals for further interrogation.

Authorities have intensified surveillance at railway stations and transit points in view of increasing attempts to smuggle narcotics across state borders.
