Two more Bangladeshi nationals arrested from Agartala Railway station for illegal entry
Despite heightened vigil along the India-Bangladesh border, infiltration from the unrest hit Bangladesh into Tripura continued and on Wednesday again two more citizens of the neighbouring country were arrested by the security personnel from Agartala railway station before boarding to a long distance train.
After unrest in Bangladesh, the infiltration into the Northeastern states especially in Tripura and Assam has continued and in the last two months, altogether 1346 Bangladesh nationals and 101 Rohingyas were arrested by security forces from different borders of the state.
AIG (Police Control) Ananta Das said that the Tripura police along with other security forces including BSF and Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) in August, 2024 had arrested altogether 620 Bangladesh nationals and 44 Rohingyas for their illegal entry. Similarly, police and other security forces have also arrested 726 Bangladeshi and 57 more Rohingyas in September, 2024.
While giving details, OC of GRP station of Agartala Railway station, Tapash Das said that a joint contingent of GRP, RPF and BSF based on secret information of Wednesday evening managed to arrest two Bangladeshi including a female before their escaping bid towards a long distance train.
The Bangladeshi citizens after illegally entering Tripura were trying to board a train to go to other parts of the country via Guwahati.
Das arrested Bangladeshi national were identified as Mohammad Afzal Sheikh (34) of Firozpur district of Bangladesh, who was also a tout involved with infiltration of Bangladeshi and Rohingyas into Indian territory and another arrested female was identified Lamiya Aktar (22) of same Firozpur district of Bangladesh.
It may be recalled here that the bordering Tripura, which is a top hotspot travelling destination for human trafficking, specially for Rohingyas and Bangladesh nationals, who were illegally entered into Indian territory and moves towards other parts of the country through different means of surface communication with help of Indian and Bangladeshi touts, but many time, the alert security forces have also managed to detain them.
Officials said that all the Bangladeshis and Rohingyas illegally entered Tripura to board trains or buses to go to other states in India “in search of jobs”.
