Two youths killed in separate train and road accidents in North Tripura
Two youths lost their lives in two separate accidents in North Tripura district on Tuesday, one in a train mishap near Churaibari Railway Station and the other in a road accident at Kadamtala.
In the first incident, a 35-year-old man was mowed down by a speeding Silchar–Agartala local train near Churaibari Railway Station on Tuesday morning. The deceased was identified as Himangshu Nath, a resident of Sanicherra village under Churaibari police station.
According to police sources, Nath was walking along the railway track near the Buddha Para area close to the outer signal when the train struck him. Despite the train repeatedly sounding its horn, the man did not move away from the track. He died on the spot due to the impact, which left his body severely mutilated. His remains were recovered in pieces and sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
Personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) rushed to the spot after receiving information. The body was later shifted to Dharmanagar with the assistance of local police. Based on statements from local residents, police suspect that the youth may have jumped in front of the speeding train in an apparent suicide attempt. An investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, in another tragic incident on Tuesday evening, a young motorcyclist died in a road accident at the Jerjari area of Kadamtala, even as the state is observing a ‘zero-fatality month’ under its road safety awareness campaign.
Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred around 5:30 pm when locals noticed the youth lying in a pool of blood beside his motorcycle. Fire and emergency services personnel rushed him to Kadamtala Hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead.
Police identified the deceased as Tanoy Roy, a resident of Srirampur village of Chandipur under Unakoti district. Further investigation into the cause of the accident is in progress.
