Union govt to spend Rs 12,500 crore for road infrastructure in Tripura, Ajay Tamta
Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta said that the Centre is spending more than Rs 12,500 crore for developing road infrastructure in Tripura and for the development of six national highways
Addressing a press conference at State Guest House on Thursday evening, the union minister said that a total of 684 kilometres to be covered in the six national highways. He said that 14 projects on these highways have already been completed, with an investment of Rs 4,271 crore and 15 additional projects are currently underway.
During his three-day visit to Tripura, Tamta highlighting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas' , said a logistics park, similar to the one in Jogighopa, Assam, will be established in Agartala to enhance connectivity by linking air, road, water, and rail routes. Plans are also in place to construct a ring road around Agartala to divert traffic away from the city, as well as a bypass from Agartala's Amtali to Lembuchhara.
According to the Minister, the road transport in Tripura has seen a sea change in Tripura and other bordering states after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed the charge of office.
During the meeting with the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, he had asked for central assistance for restoring roads which had been adversely affected due to the floods. He suggested that the state should send a detailed proposal to the Ministry. The central minister has also advised the Chief Minister to consider setting up a logistic hub in the state. He has said that he would positively look into the proposal of the state government.
Earlier, the minister visited Khowai district, where he held a review meeting at the district office, attended by District Magistrate (DM) Chandni Chandran, Additional District Magistrate Abhijit Chakraborty, and senior officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the district council. The meeting focused on the progress of various road projects in the region.
Tamta also mentioned that detailed discussions were held regarding critical government initiatives. He said the meeting reviewed the progress of targets set for blocks under the 'Vibrant India' initiative, and instructions were given to address any shortcomings to accelerate progress in lagging areas.
Besides, the MoS inaugurated the Padmabil Block, Panchayat Resource Center, and BAC Conference Hall in Khowai. He also met the women from self-help groups in the Padmabil block area, highlighting the government’s commitment to grassroots development. He also inspected the 208-B National Highway at Upendra Nagar under Padmabil Block in Khowai.
