Union Home Minister Amit Shah, JP Nadda arrived Agartala, holds meetings over cabinet

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP’s national president J P Nadda arrived Agartala on Tuesday evening to a rousing reception to hold a series of meetings as well as to attend Wednesday's swearing in of the new BJP ministry of the state .

They were given a rousing reception at the airport by a host of BJP leaders including Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, Pratima Bhowmik, state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee, Tinku Roy, central BJP observers Dr Sambit Patra, Dr Mahesh Sharma and Mahendra Singh, Biplab Kumar Deb, Papiya Dutta and Kihsore Barman.

Hectic political activities are going after the arrival of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the BJP president JP Nadda to finalise the list of ministers to be sworn in with the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday. Immediately after arriving here the two leaders sat in a meeting with the state leaders. It is learnt that among few others the Chief Minister Dr Manik Shah, the former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, BJP state President Rajib Bhattacharjee also participated in the meeting.

The entire political atmosphere took a new turn as the Tipra-Motha Chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma also arrived here close to the heel of the arrival of two senior BJP leaders. It becomes significant as the BJP leaders are trying to bring Motha in its alliance and according to reports several meetings at different levels have already taken place in the last few days and both the parties have already reached some agreement which is yet to be disclosed.

Pradyot Kishore has already given some indication that his party is ready to join the new cabinet though he is still continuing his constitutional solution of ‘Greater Tipraland’ demand. In a social media post he said “Till the time we don't get an honourable constitutional solution for our people we will not be a part of any Government ! We will play a constructive role as the first indigenous party which has 13 MLAs for the interest of the people. We cannot be looking after our individual interest over our communities. I will wait for the official response from the Govt of India on how they would like to see the future of our tiprasa in the next decade”.

Sources said that Amit Shah and J P Nadda have already attended a meeting of the BJP legislature party besides holding separate meetings with the Chief Minister designate Dr Manik Saha. Besides, the two top BJP leaders will also meet the state party’s core committee and discuss the composition of the new ministry in which a few new faces will be brought in and old faces may be dropped.

Meanwhile, BJP is keeping its options open on accommodating the ‘Tipra Motha’ and two slots in the council of ministers are likely to be kept open. The Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is in touch with the ‘Tipra Motha’ but nothing concrete has as yet emerged.
