Unorganized workers important for rural economic growth: CM

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha on Friday said unorganized workers play an important role in rural economic growth.

With the significant contributions of the unorganized workers, the rural economy has improved since the formation of the BJP government, he said after inaugurating the first state-level exhibition on the PM Vishwakarma Yojana at Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala, in presence of Union Minister Jitendra Ram Majhi.

"Earlier, there were only about 4,000 Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the state. After our government came to power, the number has risen to approximately 50,000. Beneficiaries associated with this project will benefit from the implementation of the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, and Tripura’s rural economic system is now much better," he stated.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for social change through governance.

“It is our shared ideal, on September 17, 2023, on Vishwakarma Puja, the Prime Minister launched the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, a project worth Rs 13,000 crore aimed at benefiting skilled artisans and laborers who had previously been overlooked. Unorganized workers have a huge contribution to the country's economic growth,” he said.

Dr Saha also noted that the PM Vishwakarma Yojana aims to enhance the efficiency of workers in the unorganized sector and improve the quality of their products.

"I urge the industries and commerce department and all associated officials and workers to maintain their dedicated efforts. The exhibition’s various stalls today showcased the successful implementation of this project by the Central Government through MSMEs,” the Chief Minister added.

He also mentioned the government’s continued support through various schemes.

“We envision an ‘Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura’ in alignment with the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat.’ I am confident that the successful implementation of these projects will further benefit the beneficiaries in the future,” he concluded.

The event was attended by Minister for Industries and Commerce Santana Chakma, MLA Rampada Jamatia, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Director, Ministry of MSME Milind Ramteke, Director of Industries and Commerce department Vishwashree B, and other dignitaries.

Beneficiaries of the PM Vishwakarma Yojana from various districts of the state also participated.
