Unskilled tribal artisans will have modern training for self-reliant, DM
The two days long West District Artisan Fair held at the conference of West Tripura District Magistrate (DM) concluded on Wednesday, which was inaugurated on Monday last.
After the closing ceremony of the fair, DM(West) Debapriya Bardhan addressing a press conference on Wednesday said that during two days fair, altogether 165 tribal artisans on handicraft and handlooms participated in the fair and among 106 artisans were selected for more advanced training.
They will be provided training by the Tribal and Cooperative Marketing, Development Federation of India (Delhi), North Eastern Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation (Guwahati) and Tripura TRLM on handlooms, handicrafts, production of organic food grains, food processing and marketing of the products .
Bardhan said that artisans (unskilled artisans) of self-help groups from tribal communities of remote areas, who were deprived of modern technological skills, initiatives have been taken by the department to improve their socio-economic status by giving them opportunities for self-reliance.
He said that the Artisan fair has been organized to improve the skill and marketing strategies of the unskilled artisans.
Bardhan said that handloom and handicrafts artisans of tribal communities produce various high-quality products, but due to the lack of modern technical communication, their products are not getting the right market price. Online marketing will be linked to arrange sale of their produce at fair market price. For this, they will be trained.
DM said that similar Artisan fairs will be held on April 27 and 28 in Gomati district, May 1 in South Tripura district, May 2 in Dhalai district, May 3 and 4 in North Tripura district.
