Vandalism at BJP leader house, sparks political tension in Boxanagar
A tense situation has emerged at Dayalpara ADC Village under the Boxanagar assembly constituency of Sepahijala district following an incident of vandalism at the residence of BJP leader Mahamaya Rani Debbarma.
According to the complaint, Mahamaya and her husband were forced to take shelter in the forest for the past few days allegedly due to threats of being associated with the BJP. On Wednesday morning, after receiving information that Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha would visit their house, the couple returned home from the forest.
However, upon arrival, they found their house in a completely ransacked condition. Despite the presence of police and TSR personnel in the area, doors and windows were broken, and all household belongings were found scattered and damaged. Even goods from her grocery shop inside the house were totally destroyed.
Speaking to the media persons, Mahamaya broke down in tears and questioned, “Is supporting the BJP my crime?” She alleged that miscreants linked to “Tipra Motha” were behind the attack.
The incident has triggered a sharp political blame game. The ruling BJP has claimed that a nexus between CPI(M) and Motha orchestrated the incident to defame the local MLA Tofajjal Hossain. On the other hand, Tipra-Motha leaders have alleged that supporters of the ruling party carried out the vandalism and looting, taking advantage of the Chief Minister’s visit.
Countering these allegations, BJP leaders argued that around 30–40 houses surrounding Mahamaya’s residence belong to Motha supporters, questioning how such an incident could occur in that area. They also pointed out that tight security arrangements were in place since morning due to the Chief Minister’s visit, raising doubts about the claims.
Meanwhile, the local MLA reportedly contacted the Officer-in-Charge of the police station regarding the matter, further adding to the controversy surrounding the incident.
